Asuncion, July 18 (IANS) The Paraguayan Football Association (APF) has postponed the restart of its first division season after coronavirus outbreaks at three clubs.
Doce de Octubre, Guarani and San Lorenzo reported several positive cases in the latest round of testing conducted this week, the APF said in a statement, reports Xinhua news agency.
"This decision has been taken to protect ... the lives of all people involved and contribute to national efforts to combat the pandemic," the statement read.
In addition, the APF ordered all first division clubs to carry out new tests of players, coaches and other staff members.
The Apertura tournament had been due to resume on Friday with a clash between San Lorenzo and General Diaz. The APF said the next match day had been postponed until at least July 22.
Libertad lead the Apertura standings with six wins, one draw and one defeat. They are four points clear of second-placed Olimpia, with Nacional and Guarani one point further back.
